Headshot Simi Akintunde
A Healthier Fort For Every Age

Access to healthcare shouldn’t depend on your age or your address. Yet, in my conversations with families and seniors across Fort Saskatchewan, I keep hearing the same concern: it’s hard to find a pediatrician for our kids, and nearly impossible to access geriatric specialists for our seniors.

As your councillor, I will advocate for stronger partnerships with Alberta Health Services (AHS), local health networks, and regional health professionals to help close these gaps. While municipalities don’t directly fund or hire doctors, we do play a key role in making our city attractive to health professionals and helping coordinate local solutions. This is personal for many of us. As a parent, I understand the stress of navigating pediatric care. And as someone who cares deeply about our seniors, I believe we must make aging in Fort not just possible, but dignified.

Here’s how I’ll get involved:

  • Champion physician recruitment initiatives in partnership with local clinics and AHS, focusing on pediatric and geriatric care.

  • Push for walk-in family health clinics and expanded hours in underserved areas.

  • Support incentives and housing partnerships that encourage young pediatricians and geriatric specialists to live and work in Fort Saskatchewan.

  • Work with local doctors and health stakeholders to explore home visit programs for seniors, especially those with limited mobility or transportation access.

  • Promote mobile health clinics or satellite services in collaboration with surrounding municipalities and health zones.

  • Advocate for community health hubs that bring together multiple services like mental health, child development, elder care, etc., under one roof.

  • Elevate community voices in conversations with provincial health decision-makers. Your stories deserve to shape the solutions.

Let’s make Fort Saskatchewan a community that takes care of its own - from the smallest to the wisest.

Your health matters. Think life. Think Simi.

Better Local Transit and Connectivity

During my conversations with Fort residents, one theme kept coming up: our city needs better transit options. Seniors, students, parents, and commuters all shared stories of how current transit gaps are making daily life harder. Whether it's getting to a doctor's appointment, catching a ride to work, or helping a student get to school or activities, too many people are left without reliable transportation.

As Fort Saskatchewan has expanded, access to public transit hasn’t kept pace. Back in 2016, about 78% of households were within 400 metres of a bus stop. Today, that number has dropped to 65%. This issue isn’t abstract to me. I know what that gap feels like because I’ve experienced it and heard from many who do not have a stop within walking distance. For many, especially those commuting to Edmonton, limited access to local and inter-city transit creates real, daily challenges.

If elected as a councillor, I will advocate for expanded local bus routes, increased service hours and on-demand shuttle service, and better sidewalks and crosswalks to safely connect people to nearby stops. I will also push for regional transit partnerships and a revived inter-city transit link.

Your time and convenience matters. Think ease. Think Simi.

A Councillor Who Shows Up - Honest, Transparent and Accessible

Community isn’t just where we live, it’s how we live together. As your councillor, I believe leadership starts with listening and grows through showing up. I will not stop listening after the elections. Whether it’s walking your street, chatting at the market, or sharing ideas over coffee, I’m committed to being visible, accessible, and engaged all year round.

Some of the activities I will adopt include periodic coffee chats, regular neighbourhood walkabouts, youth and seniors roundtables, pop-up office hours in parks and public spaces, regular roundtables with small businesses, fast, friendly updates in your inbox or on your feed. I will create better tools for residents to ask questions, give input, and track city projects - your voice will not only be heard, but reflected in decisions that matter.

I commit to clear, honest updates and meaningful consultation. From toddlers to grandparents, small businesses to large corporations, I’ll keep the conversation going, because building a better Fort means building it together.

Your voice matters. Think participation. Think Simi.

A Local Economy That Lets Businesses Thrive

Fort Saskatchewan deserves an economy that works for everyone. As your councillor, I will champion policies that attract new investments while nurturing the local businesses that built this city. From reducing red tape to fostering collaboration between the City and entrepreneurs, I’ll help create a climate where startups take root and established businesses scale with confidence. I will establish a Business Roundtable, which will be a direct channel between me and local business owners, to ensure your feedback shapes the way I vote, advocate, and lead. This is about ongoing dialogue, not just campaign-season listening.

Your businesses matter. Think opportunity and growth. Think Simi.

Fiscal Responsibility

In Fort Saskatchewan, we’ve moved toward problem-based budgeting. This is an approach that focuses on funding solutions, not just line items. That’s a good start, but we can go further.

As your councilor, I’ll push for fiscal decisions that reflect real community priorities, not just status quo spending. That means clearer connections between your tax dollars and the outcomes you see, smarter resource allocation, more value, and less waste.

I make a commitment to accountability and transparency at every step because fiscal responsibility isn’t about cutting; it’s about investing wisely, planning boldly, and ensuring your hard-earned dollars work harder for everyone. My global training as a lawyer and international development specialist gives me an advantage in scrutinizing by-laws, reading budget fine prints, understanding policy, and catching what others might miss. I have my eye on global best practices and my heart on Fort’s local priorities.

Your tax dollars matter. Think value. Think Simi.

Recreation That Reflects Our Growth

I believe Fort Saskatchewan should offer everything young families need, without the long drives to Edmonton and without losing our small-town charm. Many move here for that perfect blend: a welcoming community feel and the conveniences of a modern city. But that second part, the amenities, needs to catch up with our growing population.

As your councillor, I will champion smart investments in community spaces that serve all ages and neighbourhoods. That means accelerating the development of long-awaited facilities like a public swimming pool, expanding splash parks and outdoor play areas in new and underserved communities, supporting multi-use spaces that promote connection, wellness, and belonging.

Recreation isn’t luxury. It’s essential to building a vibrant, healthy, and inclusive Fort.

Your leisure matters. Think fun. Think Simi.

Provision of Adequate Infrastructure and Service

As Fort Saskatchewan continues to grow rapidly, it’s essential that we keep pace with the needs of our expanding population. I will work to ensure the city invests in critical infrastructure, like the proposed second fire station to improve emergency response times and support the evolving demands of our fire services.

Growth also means the need for more schools. I will advocate for quality, accessible education by supporting increased school capacity, better resources, and the expansion of early learning programs in our community.

Your future and safety matter. Think security. Think Simi.
